Los Angeles Police Department, Parker Center, 150 N. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

Los Angeles - On Monday, January 29, 2000, at 10:30 A.M., the National Hot Rod Association together with Mayor Richard Riordan and Chief of Police Bernard C. Parks will celebrate the Association's 50th Anniversary. Planned for the event will be a number of speakers on the dangers of illegal street racing and the partnerships created to facilitate alternatives for today's enthusiastic motoring youths. Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks will address all in attendance and speakers at this event will include Mayor Richard Riordan and corporate sponsor representatives.

On hand will be a number of popular hot rods, celebrity hot rod racers and the famous official LAPD dragstrip race car.

Following the Press Conference the celebration will include a demonstration of some of the hot rods on Los Angeles Street which will be closed off between Temple and 1st Streets for the event.

The media is cordially invited to attend and participate in the event to help the Los Angeles Police Department shed light on the problems associated with illegal street racing and what can be done about this problem.
