Dangerous Chemical Stolen Along with Truck

South Los Angeles: The Los Angles Police Department is investigating the burglary of DACCO, a commercial business located at 535 West 152nd Street. The burglary occurred during the evening hours of December 31, 2001, and was discovered today. It appears the object of the burglary was a 1998 Chevrolet Stake-Bed Truck, Model 3500, white in color, with California License Plate 5T68532. The door of the vehicle contains the name DACCO in 3 inch black lettering. It maybe known or not known to the suspects that the truck had five 100 pound canisters of nitric acid in the bed of the truck. This acid is extremely corrosive and if handled can be very dangerous. The silver colored canisters have the writing "Corrosive" on the side; the canisters also have a handle and a spout. They are 20" high and have a diameter of approximately 12".
The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the stolen vehicle and the canisters. Should anyone see the truck please call their local police or the Los Angeles Police Department’s Burglary Auto Theft Division. If a canister is located, do not touch it. Please immediately call the LAPD or the Los Angeles City Fire Department. They will know how to safely handle the canisters.
