Neighborhood Fruit Vendor Murdered

Elysian Park: On Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at approximately 6:45 p.m., a well known area street vendor was robbed and murdered in the 1900 block of Blake Avenue. 47 year-old Concepcion Guiterrez of East Los Angeles was shot by the unknown suspect(s) who then fled in her vehicle. The mother of four children, Ms. Guiterrez was initially a victim of a carjacking, but the incident rapidly erupted into a shooting. The truck, which provided the woman with her livelihood, was later found abandoned not far from where the victim was killed.

Attacked while she was selling fruits and vegetables out of her vehicle, Ms. Gutierrez provided groceries to residents of the Elysian Park Community. At the time of this release, there were no known witnesses to the crime and it was unclear as to the total property stolen from Ms. Guiterrez.
