Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of 23 year-old Javier Castaneda and the attempt murder of two additional victims.

On Saturday, January 18, 2003, at approximately 10:15 p.m., the victims were standing on the front steps of an apartment building located in the 200 block of south Soto Street, when three unknown suspects approached them on foot and began to shoot at the victims. Castaneda was struck in the upper torso area and died at the scene. The two other victims were transported to a local hospital where they are expected to survive their wounds.
