Two Shot to Death in Vehicle

Los Angeles: Newton Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the double murder of a male and female Hispanic who were discovered shot to death in a parked vehicle.

On Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Newton Area patrol officers responded to a possible "Murder / Suicide" radio call in the area of 54th Street and McKinley Avenue. Arriving at the location, LAPD officers discovered 22 year-old Ileana Lara and 22 year-old Erik Flores, both residents of Los Angeles, seated inside a maroon Honda and dead from gunshot wounds. The subsequent investigation revealed that the incident was not a murder/suicide and is being investigated as a double homicide.

There is no apparent motive and there are no suspects in custody. No weapon was recovered.

This media advisory was prepared by Public Information Officer Jack Richter, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
