Child Abduction Regional Emergency Media Alert

 

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting the media provide the public with the following information to assist Law Enforcement efforts in locating abducted children.

On January 29, 2003, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the suspect, 22 year-old Roberto Tapia, went to his girl friend’s residence located in the 400 block of North Fresno Street. The suspect forcefully took his girl friend, 15 year-old Crystal Quevedo. When Crystal’s family attempted to stop the suspect, Tapia fired several rounds at them with a possible 38-caliber handgun. Tapia then drove off in a 1997-1999 black Toyota Camry, four door, with aluminum alloy wheels and heavy tinted windows.

Crystal has black hair, brown eyes, 5’6", 110 lbs. She was last seen wearing blue overalls with white T-shirt.

The suspect was described as a male Hispanic with black hair, brown eyes, 5’8", 175 lbs. date of birth of 2-25-80. He was last seen wearing a blue hat, light blue shirt and blue jeans. The suspect has contacts in South Central Los Angeles and the City of Hawthorne and may also be heading to Mexico.

The suspect deals narcotics and is also known as Alberto Tapia or Jose Roberto Chavarria.
