Officer Involved Shooting, Results in Injury

Los Angeles: On Monday, January 27, 2005, at about 4:30 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department Officers Kevin Burke, six years on the Department and Officer Gerardo Morales, eight years on the Department, both were working Hollywood Area patrol, when they recognized a wanted Felony suspect, "Francisco Gonzales."

The officers were driving south on Kingsley Street at Fountain Avenue when they saw the wanted suspect an active gang member, driving a silver vehicle. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, when the suspect fled in his vehicle. The officers went into pursuit until Mr. Gonzales crashed his vehicle into an innocent driver, after failing to stop for a stop sign, at Santa Monica Boulevard and Kingsley Drive. The suspect eagerly exited his vehicle and approached the officers when an officer involved shooting occurred.

A Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance transported Gonzales to a local hospital where he remains under guard. Neither officer was injured during the confrontation.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Force Investigation Division Detectives are conducting an investigation of the incident.
