Approximately 50 Los Angeles Police Department personnel will participate in the workshop to learn about Korean history, culture and language.  The purpose of the workshop is to help police personnel understand Korean heritage and to overcome cultural barriers.

The 8-hour session includes lectures by professors from leading universities, a traditional Korean lunch and a tour of the Korean Cultural Center.

Members of the media are invited on January 20, 2010 at 11:45 a.m. for news briefing and interviews.  Deputy Chief Debra J. McCarthy, Commanding Officer, Operations-West Bureau, will be present at the beginning of the workshop to welcome the attendees.  In addition, LAPD officers who previously attended the class will be available to discuss how the training helped them interact better with the Korean-American community.
