Murder Suspect Arrested in the Northeast Area

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, July 26, 1999

On Sunday, July 25, 1999, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Northeast Area Uniformed Patrol Officers responded to a radio call, "187 Just Occurred, Suspect Just Left" at the 3000 block of Hyperion Avenue. Responding officers discovered the victim lying on the ground inside of a garage. The Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned to the scene, and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene provided officers with a description of a possible suspect who was observed leaving the scene. As officers were searching the area, they were alerted to a radio call of a "Prowler Suspect There Now," 2900 block of Glendale Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene and observed a possible suspect who matched the description provided by witnesses, in the area. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The motive for this homicide is unknown at this time. The suspect, Richard Heyer was arrested and booked for 187 PC Murder.

Northeast Area Homicide Detectives are conducting the investigation.
