Suspects are being sought in fatal shooting

On July 31, 1999 at approximately 11:25 pm, the victim was the right rear passenger in the suspects’ vehicle. Three other suspects were occupying the vehicle. The driver was described as a male Hispanic 30 to 33 years of age. The front passenger was described only as a male Hispanic. The left rear passenger, who was the shooter, was described as a male Hispanic, 20 to 25 years of age.

The suspects stopped their vehicle at the south curb of 8th Street at the southbound 9th Street off ramp of the Harbor Freeway. The left rear passenger fired one round at the victim inside the vehicle then opened the right rear door of the vehicle and pushed the victim onto the street. The shooter then fired several more rounds at the victim prior to the suspects fleeing in their vehicle eastbound 8th Street and then northbound on the Harbor Freeway.

The suspects’ vehicle is described as a newer, four door, Japanese import, black in color.

The victim was transported to L.A.C.G.H. where he succumbed to his wounds. The murder weapon is believed to be a medium caliber semi-automatic handgun. The motive for this crime has not been established.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
