Tragic Traffic Collision Involving One Vehicle Kills One and Injures Three

On Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a 16 year licensed driver, was involved in a fatal solo vehicle traffic collision on Mulholland Drive, east of Deep Canyon Drive.

The 98 BMW was eastbound on Mulholland Drive when the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with trees, shrubs and bushes while descending approximately 150 feet from the area of impact. As a result of the collision, one of four passengers, Victoria Bixler Schmitt, 18 years of age, was ejected from vehicle. Ms. Schmitt was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by LA Fire Department Rescue personnel.

It was determined that Ms. Schmitt was visiting friends in the area and resided in Colorado. Three additional passengers sustained injuries during this traffic incident which included broken ribs, dislocated collar bone, fractured facial bone, compound fracture to right foot, lacerations and abrasions.

The traffic investigation revealed no alcohol related to this incident.
