Man Fatally Stabbed in Koreatown

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Thursday, July 6, 2000

"Man Fatally Stabbed in Koreatown"

Koreatown - On Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Wilshire Area patrol officers received a 911 call to respond to the scene of a dead body which had been found in the street at 1300 Manhattan Place in Koreatown. Officers responded to the location and discovered the body of an unidentified male Hispanic in his mid-20's who had been stabbed to death.

Upon further investigation, witnesses recounted to officers that the victim had earlier been walking near a Shell gas station located near Western Avenue and Pico Boulevard when he was confronted by two male Hispanic suspects who were dressed in gang-type attire. The three men argued and ultimately the argument turned physical. Outnumbered, the victim attempted to get away by running through the gas station lot and northbound to 3130 Pico Boulevard. Unfortunately, the suspects followed him and knocked him to the ground where they continued to strike him repeatedly and then stabbed him to death with an unknown type of knife.

The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to Cedar Sinai Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The suspect and knife remain outstanding. The motive has not been determined.

Wilshire Area Homicide Detectives are handling the investigation. Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to contact Detective Bolan at
213-473-0444. For further information, please contact Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.

This press release was prepared by Officer Guillermo Campos, Media Relations Section.
