"Juvenile Subject Arrested for Murder"

Los Angeles - On Tuesday morning, July 11, 2000, at approximately 12:25 a.m., victim, Mario Naranjo, 35 years old, was standing on the sidewalk in front of his residence, which is located at 804 West 53rd Street, Los Angeles. Naranjo engaged in an argument with suspect(s) who were searching throughout the bed of Naranjo's pick up truck. Suspect(s) armed with an unknown type of semi-auto pistol fired several rounds at Naranjo. Naranjo sustained a single gunshot wound to his torso and was transported by family members to Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital for medical treatment. Naranjo failed to respond to medical treatment and succumbed to his injuries at 1:20 p.m. at the hospital. 77th Street Division Officers responded to the location and took a 17 years old juvenile into custody. He was arrested and booked at 77th Street Division for 602 W.I.C. 187 P.C. (Murder).

Motive for this incident has not been established.

Subject in custody and weapon remains outstanding.
