"Two Victims Die in Shooting"

Los Angeles: On Thursday morning, July 13, 2000, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Clifton Jerome Adams, male Black, 24 years old and Antonio Wingate, male Black, 46 years old

were on the sidewalk in front of 647 East 79th Street in Los Angeles. An unknown suspect armed with a pistol approached them on foot and fired several rounds in their direction. Adams was struck multiple times in the upper torso and died at the scene. Wingate also sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso and head. Wingate was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. During this shooting incident Maria Elena Luevano, 24 years of age, was working in her backyard at 655 East 79th Street. As a result of shooting she sustained a minor flesh wound to her left shoulder from a stray bullet. She did not require hospitalization.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a male Black, youthful in appearance and was seen running on foot and enter a newer model Sports Utility Vehicle possibly a Chevrolet Blazer, black in color with tinted windows and paper plates. The vehicle was being driven by another male Black. The suspect and his companion were last seen northbound on Stanford Street towards Florence Avenue.

The motive for this incident has not been established.

Suspect(s) and weapon remain outstanding.

This incident is being investigated by LAPD 77th Street Homicide Detectives Armando Bernal and Robert Solorza. Anyone with information concerning this incident is requested to call 77th Street Homicide at 213-485-1383 or 77th Street Watch Commander at 213-485-2389.
