24 Year Old Shot on Sidewalk

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Friday, July 14, 2000

"24 Year Old Shot on Sidewalk"

Los Angeles: On Thursday, July 13, 2000, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Raymond Strada, 24 years old and a 15 year old juvenile, were on the sidewalk in front of 7401 South Broadway in Los Angeles. An unknown suspect armed with a pistol approached them on foot and fired several rounds in their direction. Estrada was struck multiple times in the upper torso and was transported by LAFD Rescue Ambulance to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The 15 year old juvenile was not hit during the shooting.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a male Black, about 22 years old. He was seen running on foot and entering a newer model van, possibly a 1998 burgundy Astro Van. The suspect and his companion were last seen northbound on Grand Avenue from 74th Street.

The motive appears to be gang-related.

Suspect(s) and weapon remain outstanding.

77th Street Homicide Detectives are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information concerning this incident is requested to call 77th Street Homicide Detectives at 213-485-1383 or 77th Street Watch Commander at 213-485-2389.
