"Homicide Investigation in 77th Street Area"
 

Los Angeles – On Monday, July 2, 2001, at approximately 1:40 p.m., victim Derrick Devaugh Wince, 30 years old, was standing in the 4700 block of South Budlong Avenue. Three male Black suspects in a white pick-up truck drove by the victim. The driver in the truck, suspect #1, fired several rounds at Wince. All three suspects then fled the scene southbound on Budlong Avenue. Wince sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Los Angeles Fire Department Personnel responded to the scene and transported Wince to Martin Luther King Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The motive is unknown, but it appears to be gang related.
The suspects and weapon remain outstanding.
