Man Shot and Killed in Gas Station

Los Angeles: On Sunday, July 28, 2002, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a shooting in the 11000 block of Norris Avenue in Pacoima.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered the shooting victim, Efrain Rivera, a 22 year-old resident of Pacoima. The victim is a documented local gang member. Additional investigation revealed the shooting actually occurred at 12957 Van Nuys Boulevard.

Witnesses indicated the victim was stopped at a gas pump when the suspects stopped their vehicle next to the victim. The suspects shot numerous times at the victim and fled in a white or silver SUV. The suspects were described as two to three male Hispanics with shaved heads.

The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital by Los Angeles City Fire Department Rescue Ambulance in critical condition. The victim died short time later.

The suspects fled the scene and have not been identified. Detectives are investigating this incident as a gang related shooting.
