Los Angeles: On Saturday June 7, 2003, at 10:44 p.m., 23 year-old Torrey Jones was found shot and lying on the south sidewalk in front of a closed business in the 21400 block of Chase Street in Canoga Park. The victim was transported to Northridge Hospital however he failed to respond to resuscitation efforts and died. The preliminary information indicated the victim had been walking a friend to a parked vehicle. A lone gunman, described only as a male Black, suddenly appeared and shot the victim multiple times in the chest. The shooter then fled the location toward Canoga Avenue.

On July 7, 2003, just past midnight, 60 year-old Marcos Flores was found by family slumped over inside his vehicle, which was parked in front of their residence. Mr. Flores was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in extremely critical condition, where he died at the hospital at approximately 12:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed Mr. Flores had been returning home from work between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. He was shot an unspecified number of times in the upper body while seated in his red Isuzu Trooper.

Despite exhaustive investigations by the assigned detectives, the identities of the assailants remain unknown.

A press conference to announce the existence of a $25,000 reward for each case will be held on Friday August 1, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. The location of the press conference is the same as the crime scene of Torrey Jones. Members of the Jones and Flores families, as well as a representative of Councilman Smith and staff officers of the Los Angeles Police Department will attend the news conference. Photographs of the victims and Marcos Flores’ vehicle will be available for distribution to the media.
