Witnesses Help Capture A Murder Suspect

Los Angeles: Los Angeles police detectives are grateful for the assistance of several witnesses who chased and detained a man after shooting two men early Saturday morning in the Pico-Union Area of Los Angeles.

On July 22, 2006, at about 2:05 a.m., Eric Salvador, a 26-year-old Hispanic man and his cousin Efrain Martinez, 27-years-old, were eating at a taco stand in the 3100 block of West Pico Boulevard. The suspect, a male Hispanic, walked into the taco stand and began yelling at the two cousins and the other patrons. The suspect shot Salvador in the chest. When Martinez ran to help his cousin, the suspect shot him in the arm and chest. Martinez, along with other patrons chased the suspect and detained him until the police arrived.

Both Salvador and Martinez were transported to Cedar Sinai Medical Center where they later died from their injuries.

The suspect is identified as Edgar Suchite, 35-years-old of Los Angeles. Suchite faces two counts of murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.

The LAPD does not recommend confronting an armed suspect. However, detectives are appreciative of the braverydemonstrated by the witnesses, who helped to solve this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wilshire Homicide Detectives at 213-473-0446. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
