2 Young Men Shot, 1 Dies and 1 wounded in Highland Park

Los Angeles: Northeast Homicide Detectives are asking for the public's help with information on the shooting death of 17 year old boy early Saturday Morning.

On July 22, 2006, at about 12:20 AM, officers responded to a call at the corner of Avenue 40 and Midland Street in Highland Park. The officers located a 17 year old male Hispanic suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A second male Hispanic 17-years-old was later located at a local hospital also suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was listed in stable condition.

The investigation revealed that the victims were attending a gathering in the 200 block of East Avenue 40 in Highland Park, when a fight began between several people. The fight continued to the intersection of Avenue 40 and Midland Street where a male Hispanic, no further description, shot the victims.

The motive of the shooting appears to be gang related.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Northeast Homicide Detectives at 213-847-4261. After hours and on weekends, call the 24-hour toll free Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAW-FULL (1-877-529-3855).
