14-Year-Old Girl Shot on Fourth of July NR10345rh

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Rampart Area homicide detectives are asking the public to provide information that would lead to the arrest of a suspect(s) wanted for the killing of a 14-year-old Daisy Garcia.

On July 4, 2010, at around 10:20 p.m., a patrol unit was dispatched to a radio call in the 1300 block of South Toberman Street.  The victim was outside of her home celebrating the 4th of July holiday with her family and neighbors when 4-5 male suspects approached from the north end of the street.  One of the suspects fired multiple rounds striking Garcia in the upper torso.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Garcia to a local hospital where she died a short time later from her injuries.

The suspects are described as 4-5 male suspects, no further description.  Detectives believe the motive for this crime is gang related.

Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to contact Rampart Homicide Detectives Arteaga or Linscomb at 213-484-3650.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.   Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
