Assault Suspect Injured During Arrest NR12311bb

July 2, 2012

Los Angeles:  A suspect arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) was injured as he attempted to pull away from officers.

On May 26, 2012 around 7:25 p.m., Hollenbeck Division Police Officers Miguel Ruano and Rigoberto Vasquez, both have been with the Department for 3 years and 10 months, responded to a Domestic Battery call at a residence in the 200 block of North Soto Street.  Once on scene the officers conducted their investigation, which ultimately lead to the arrest of 56-year-old David Landin for ADW.  Officers Ruano and Vasquez subsequently escorted Landin down an exterior stairway when, about three or four stairs from the ground level, Landin suddenly pulled away from the Officers’ grasp and fell down the stairway striking the left side of his face on the concrete.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the location and took Landin to a local hospital where he was admitted in stable condition and treated for his injuries.  No officers were injured during the incident and the Department’s Force Investigation Division is conducting a full investigation.

The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners for compliance with the Department’s use-of-force policy which states that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable.
