Victim Arms Himself Against Two Burglary Suspects

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Thursday, June 24, 1999

On Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at approximately 12:00 p.m., in the 12400 block of Osborne Street, the victim, Mr. Brashears and his young son were inside the apartment. Mr. Brashears responded to a loud knock at his front door and saw two males Hispanics which he did not recognize. Mr. Brashears slammed the door shut and retreated to his upstairs bedroom. The unknown male Hispanics forced the front door open and entered the apartment. The suspects proceeded up the stairs to the bedroom. Mr. Brashears had armed himself with his own handgun, and engaged the suspects, as they walked up the stairs. Mr. Brashears fired several rounds at the suspects who then fled from the apartment.

The suspects fled in separate directions. Suspect #1, Riehm, Jobb, 22 years old, collapsed on the main driveway as a result of multiple gun shot wounds to his torso. Suspect #2, Acuna, Fabian, 20 years old, fled along the side perimeter fence, where he fell and sustained a broken leg. The suspect with the broken leg attempted to hot-wire a vehicle to make his escape. Both suspects were then taken into custody by the responding officers.
