Grand Theft Auto Suspect Attempts to Escape Police

Wednesday, June 16, 1999

On Friday, June 11, 1999 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Van Nuys Patrol Officers observed a vehicle eastbound Roscoe Boulevard at Cedros Avenue. Officers ran the out of state plate and it returned to a stolen vehicle. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to yield and accelerate to attempt an escape. The driver continued northbound Tobias Avenue failing to stop for stop signs. The driver collided with a westbound vehicle at Nordhoff Street. The suspect's vehicle flipped over and landed on the sidewalk. The suspect was trapped and Los Angeles Fire Department responded and used the Jaws of Life to extract the driver.

The suspect, who was discovered to be armed with an unknown caliber handgun, was transported to a local hospital for his injuries and when released will be arrested for Grand Theft Auto and weapons violation.

The occupants of the other vehicle were taken to another local hospital for minor injuries.
