"Detectives Need Public's Assistance in Locating Murder Suspect"
Van Nuys - On Friday, June 2, 2000, at 11:00 a.m., Van Nuys Operations Support Detectives will hold a press conference at Van Nuys Station, 6240 Sylmar Avenue, Van Nuys. The press conference is to request the public's assistance in locating a Murder suspect.
On Monday, May 29, 2000, at approximately 1:07 a.m., Van Nuys Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of "Shots Fired" at 14430 Valerio Street. At the location, Officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Victim #1, Francisco Nieto, a male Hispanic 19 years of age, a resident of Van Nuys was suffering from a Gunshot Wound to the upper torso. Victim #2, Enrique Somar, a male Hispanic, 20 years of age, also a resident of Van Nuys was suffering from a Gunshot Wound to the leg. Both victims were transported by Rescue Ambulance to a local Hospital where Francisco Nieto expired at 1:44 a.m. Enrique Somar was treated and released.
During the investigation, it was learned that Sina Chris Nang, a male Cambodian, 20 years old, Orange/Reddish Hair, Brown eyes, 5'3", 100 lbs., is the person responsible for shooting and killing Francisco Nieto. It is believed that friends and possible co-suspects are aiding Nang in his hiding. After the murder, Nang returned to the crime location and bragged about killing Nieto. He fled the location and has not been seen since.
Suspect Nang is to be considered extremely dangerous and the public should not attempt to detain or contact him in any way. The public is advised to call their nearest Police Department.
Van Nuys Detectives will provide a photograph of the suspect during the press conference for use by the media to inform the public.
