Man In Critical Condition After Being Shot For Unknown Reason

"Man In Critical Condition After Being Shot For Unknown Reason"

Tujunga: On June 23, 2001, at approximately 10:45 A.M., Foothill Patrol Officers responded to the report of a shooting at 7075 Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival the officers observed a male adult laying on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to Holy Cross Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Foothill Homicide Detectives have determined that the victim was standing on the sidewalk outside a donut shop when a male, in his mid-thirties, walked up to the victim, kicked him, and then shot him several times. The suspect then entered a vehicle and drove away. The suspect's car was found abandoned several blocks away. The motive for the shooting is unknown and detectives are in the process of positively identifying the suspect.

The victim is identified as Martin Perez, 34 years of age and a resident of Tujunga.

Several persons witnessed the shooting but left prior to the arrival of officers. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to please call Foothill Homicide Detectives at 818-834-3103. Lieutenant George Rock is supervising the investigation.

This press release was prepared by Officer Don Cox, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
