Drive-by Shooting Leaves Young Victim Dead
Los Angeles: On Friday, June 21, 2002, at approximately 4:00
P.M., Hollenbeck uniformed officers responded to the scene of a shooting at
the 2600 block of Gleason Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a young
female victim in front of 2619 Gleason Avenue, injured as a result of a
gunshot wound.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the
victim to USC Medical Center. She failed to respond to emergency medical
treatment and died as a result of her injury.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was standing in
the street when unknown suspects approached her in a tan colored Cadillac.
The front passenger in that vehicle, armed with a handgun, fired one round,
striking the victim in the upper torso. The suspects sped away eastbound
Gleason Avenue.
The victim has been identified as 16 year-old, Nancy Jauregui. The motive
for this attack is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
