"Detectives Ask for the Public’s Help in Cold Murder Investigation"

 

What:
North Hollywood detectives will hold a press conference to ask for the public’s help with information on a homicide investigation.

When:
Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 2:00 P.M.

Where:
Valley Liquor Store at 7561 Laurel Canyon Boulevard

Los Angeles: On February 20, 2002, at approximately 9:30 P.M., the victim, identified as 27 year old, Armando Juan Alanis, was using the public pay-phone next to the Valley Liquor Store, located at the S/W corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd and Saticoy Street. A male Hispanic suspect, armed with a handgun, approached the victim on foot. The suspect shot the victim numerous times before fleeing.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead as the result of gunshot wounds.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 19-20 years old, wearing a dark colored football jersey with the number 22, and dark pants.

The motive for this homicide is still unknown.

On Thursday, June 27, 2002, the Los Angeles Police Department, North Hollywood Gang Detectives will be conducting a press conference to ask for the public’s help with information regarding this crime. The crime occurred in a well-lighted, well-traveled area and is close to commercial shopping stores. It is probable that there are individuals who may have witnessed the crime, but have yet to contact the police. Detectives will release photographs of the victim’s vehicle (2000, Blue 4 door Mitsubishi Galant). The victim drove his car to the location of the crime. The victim’s family will be available at the press conference.
