Sexual Assault Ends in Homicide/Suicide

Los Angeles: On Thursday, June 27, 2002, at approximately 9:27 a.m., Los Angeles Police Officers assigned to Devonshire Community Police Station, responded to a radio call on the 8600 block of International Avenue in Canoga Park. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body of a male Hispanic, 38 year-old Jesus Medina Aguirre of Los Angeles on the living room floor. Also at the location was the lifeless body of a female Hispanic, 27 year-old Susana Centeno of Los Angeles. Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the male and female dead.

Based on the preliminary investigation conducted, it is apparent that Suspect Aguirre may have been acquainted with an occupant at the location. The suspect gained entry to the murdered victim’s residence. The suspect held Victim Centeno, another 24 year-old female Hispanic and two children (toddlers) at gunpoint. The suspect sexually assaulted the two adult victims. The suspect then fatally shot one of the female victims before committing suicide. The second female fled the location with the children.

The investigation is being conducted by Robbery-Homicide Division. Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is urged to call 818-756-8309. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL (877-529-3855). All information provided will remain confidential.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Alex Baez, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
