Four Children Abducted by Father

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is providing the public with the following information to assist law enforcement with their efforts in locating four children who had been abducted by their natural father.

The Los Angeles Police Department is providing the public with the following information to assist law enforcement with their efforts in locating four children who had been abducted by their natural father.

On Friday, June 28, 2002, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the suspect, Antonio Pacheco, took his wife out to dinner in East Los Angeles. While they were dining, the suspect advised his wife, Maria Rodriguez, that he was going to get some gas for their car. The suspect left and did not return for approximately four hours.

When Maria took a taxi and returned to their residence at approximately 9:00 p.m., she discovered her husband and children had packed up and left the location.

Maria advised the officers that they have been married for 14 years and have four children in common. She further stated that they have been arguing over the family moving to the Chicago area and her husband was against the plan. The suspect had threatened to take their children to Mexico.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect and the children were picked up by an unknown male Hispanic driving a red van from their residence, 156 2/3 East 73rd Street. The suspect left his car behind.

Abducted children are 13-year old Arlene Pacheco, 11-year old Jim Pacheco, ten-year old Jaime Pacheco and eight-year old Jadira Pacheco.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, black hair, brown hair, 5’9", 185 lbs., 39 years old. Photographs of the suspect and the children are available at 77th Street Area community Police Station, 7600 South Broadway.

Anyone with information that may assist in this investigation is urged to contact the 77th Street Area Watch Commander at 213-485-4164. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relation Section, 213-485-3586.
