24 Year-Old Man Dumped on the Roadway

Los Angeles - On Sunday, May 30, 2004, at around 1:15 a.m., Southeast Area patrol officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 2100 block of East 112th Street. The officers met with a resident who said that someone was shot in front of 2110 East 112th Street. The officers located a small blood trail, but no victim was found.

Officers checked local area hospitals but were unable to locate any recent shooting victims. Shortly thereafter, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a dead body found in the roadway on the 2500 block of East 111th Street. A follow up investigation revealed that the 24 year-old male victim, identified as Tefoni Mazen, was the person shot on 112th Street.

During the investigation, detectives found that a group of up to eight suspects confronted Mazen. One of the suspects shot him multiple times. After the shooting, Mazen was taken, possibly by the suspects, and dumped in the 2500 block of East 111th Street, just a few blocks away from where he was shot.

Southeast Homicide Detectives are conducting the investigation and are asking that anyone with information regarding this shooting call the Southeast Area Homicide Detectives, at 213-485-6902. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number for the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).

This news release was prepared by Public Information Officer Sara Faden, Media Relations Section, at 213-485-3586.
