Public’s Help Needed to Capture a Burglar

Los Angeles: Commercial Crimes Division Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the "Bel Air Burglar." The suspect is a white male, approximately 5’6", 135 pounds, and 40 to 50 years old. He has gray hair and wears all black clothing, a black hat, and a shoulder bag.

The suspect’s mode of operation is to enter a house through a rear door in the early hours of the morning. After entering, he seeks the location of the household safe and proceeds to force it open. He has been using the victim’s own tools to open the safes.

Detectives believe that he is responsible for 30 to 40 burglaries in the West Los Angeles/Bel Air areas.

Media Relations Section has photos and surveillance footage of the suspect available for distribution to the news media.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is urged to contact Detective Bybee and Detective Black, Commercial Crimes Division, Burglary Section, at 213-485-2524. On weekends and during off-hours contact the 24-hour toll free number at the Detectives Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL, (1-877-529-3855).

This news release was prepared by Public Information Officer Sara Faden, Media Relations Section, at 213-485-3586.
