"Burbank Police Investigation In Los Angeles Results In An
Officer Involved Shooting"
Los Angeles: On Friday, June 25, 2004, at about 10:30 p.m.,
Burbank Police detectives were conducting a narcotics investigation in an
alley near Oxnard Street and Coldwater Canyon Avenue in North Hollywood
Area. The detectives attempted to talk to a man, who was later identified as
25 year old Assif Deri, a resident of North Hollywood. Deri accelerated his
vehicle toward one of the detectives who was on foot, striking his leg. Both
detectives fired their service weapons and wounded the suspect.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene
and treated Deri for his injuries, but he failed to respond to treatment and
died as the result of his wounds. The detective who was injured by the
suspect’s car was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and
released.
Robbery-Homicide Division is conducting the investigation.
