Photo Released of Car Related to Death of Homeless Man

Los Angeles: Detectives released three photographs of a silver 1999 Mercury Sable which they believe may be connected to the investigation of Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt, the two women arrested by the FBI for mail fraud and under investigation by the LAPD for their connection to the deaths of two homeless men.

Detectives found a notation in Helen Golay's day planner, which referenced the Mercury Sable. Detectives followed leads to the current owner, who bought the car legitimately without any knowledge of its history. The owner is cooperating with detectives.

"The detectives believe the car may be linked to the death of Kenneth McDavid in 2005," said LAPD Lieutenant Paul Vernon. "Detectives found records that showed the car was towed from a Chevron station, not far from where McDavid’s body was found about one hour later in a nearby alley."

Golay's day planner was seized May 18, 2006, during the search of her Santa Monica triplex.

Detectives are still asking for the public’s assistance in any clues. Person with information can call Robbery Homicide Division at 213-485-2129. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).

Three photographs of the Mercury Sable are available: front view, side view, and rear view.
