4-Year-Old Boy Struck by Passing Vehicle

Los Angeles: Los Angeles detectives are investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy who was struck by a car yesterday in Arleta.

At around 9 p.m., a tan 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck was being driven eastbound on Daventry Street near Laurel Canyon Boulevard in the city of Arleta. At the same time, a family was getting out of their Ford Expedition parked along the north side curb. The family's 4-year-old son got out on the passenger side of the SUV, ran toward the back of the car and then into the street when the passing pickup truck struck him.

The child, a resident of Arleta, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.

The 44-year-old driver of the Chevrolet, a resident of Mission Hills, was not injured. Currently, no charges have been filed on the driver and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact Police Officer Daniel Menesez, Valley Traffic Division, at 818-644-8020. Those seeking additional information may contact the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Section at 213-485-3586.
