Why:
The purpose of the DUI checkpoint is to reduce the number of injuries, deaths, hit and run traffic accidents, and property damage associated with the intoxicated driver. The LAPD seeks to achieve these goals through enforcement and public awareness. Harbor Division has experienced an 8 percent decrease in DUI related traffic collisions year to date as compared to 2008.
The checkpoint will serve as a reminder to the Wilmington community of Harbor Division to use designated drivers and not to drink and drive.
Funding for this checkpoint comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. We can all help make our streets safer, please report Drunk Drivers – Call 911.
