Man Dies from Hit-and-Run Collision NR12302df

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver responsible for a hit-and-run incident that killed an elderly man as he crossed the street.

On Monday, June 18, 2012, around 12 p.m., 78-year-old Jimmie Thomas of Los Angeles was crossing the street on Western Avenue and 55th Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Western Avenue.  Thomas was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

The suspect is described as a Black male with a light complexion in his mid-30s.  He also has a thin build with short hair and glasses.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop and render aid or exchange information and was last seen heading southbound on Western Avenue.  Witnesses described the vehicle as a grey or dark-colored 2000-2005 Ford Escape.
