Captain III Matt Blake, was born in Hawthorne, California and raised in Los Angeles County. He received his Bachelor's degree from Long Beach State University. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1987 as a second generation Los Angeles Police Officer. His father, Bruce Blake, retired as a Sergeant in 1992 from the Van Nuys Division.
Captain Blake began his career at the 77th Division as a patrol officer and has since worked in every bureau in the City. He was promoted to the rank of Training Officer in 1990 while assigned to Operations West Bureau Crash where he worked in a gang suppression role as well as a Detective Trainee. In 1994, he was promoted to the rank of Detective and worked investigative assignments such as Domestic Violence, Crimes Against Children, Narcotics, Sex Crimes, and Homicide. In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In 1999 he was promoted to Sergeant II and worked Internal Affairs in the Advocate's section as well as in an undercover capacity in the Special Operations Section. In 2001 he was promoted to Lieutenant and worked as a watch commander prior to returning to Internal Affairs as the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigative Section. In 2005, Captain Blake worked in the Office of Operations as the Adjutant to then Assistant Chief George Gascon. In September of 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was assigned Southeast Area as the Patrol Commanding Officer. In June of 2007, he was transferred and assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer of Southwest Division prior to receiving the rank of Captain III in West Los Angeles Area. Captain Blake is currently assigned to the Midcity Division.
Captain Blake is the proud father of two boys and two girls. |
