Police Administrator II
Francois L. Gardere Jr., is
Administrative Services Bureau
the Commanding Officer of Personnel Division. As the C/O of
Personnel Division, he serves as the Department's Personnel
Director and advises top Department management on personnel related
laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Mr. Gardere is
also responsible for processing and assigning all sworn and
civilian personnel, conducting background investigations of all
civilian personnel, processing all sick and injured employee
documents, administering the Department's Return to Work Program,
processing sworn employees applying for pensions, and maintaining
all personnel and medical records of the Department.
Mr. Gardere was appointed to the LAPD in 1990 as a Station Officer.
He remained at Jail Division for 10 years, promoting to Senior and
Principal Detention Officer before leaving the Department in 2000
to pursue an administrative career. Mr. Gardere worked his way up
the analyst ranks in the personnel section of several departments
including Public Works, Los Angeles World Airports, and the
Department of Water and Power, before returning to LAPD in 2007 as
the Assistant Commanding Officer of Personnel Division.
