email Captain Stephen Michael Carmona assumed command of North Hollywood Area Station on June 16, 2013. He is a 31-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. After graduating as a Police Officer in 1982, he held assignments at Foothill, Communications Division, Rampart, Van Nuys, Hollywood Patrol and Hollywood Vice.  Captain Carmona worked as a patrol sergeant at Foothill, and as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Foothill Gang Enforcement Detail and the Foothill CLEAR unit.  He also worked as a Pacific Division beach supervisor and as the OIC of the Pacific Special Problems Unit.

Captain Carmona played a key role in the openings of two of the newest Police stations.  In 2005, he served on the transition team for the newly constructed Mission Area Station and later worked as an Assistant Watch Commander. While at Mission, he promoted to Lieutenant and was put in charge of the Office of Operations CREW Task Force.  The CREW task force consisted of approximately one hundred police officers and sergeants deployed daily in the highest crime areas of the City.  Later, in 2009, Captain Carmona was assigned to the Topanga Area transition team, where he worked on opening the Departments twenty-first Community Police Station.  When Topanga Community Police Station became operational, he served as the OIC of the Topanga Gang Impact Team and later as the Commanding Officer of Topanga Detective Division.  In December of 2009, he was assigned as the adjutant to Operations-Valley Bureau under Deputy Chief Kirk J. Albanese.

Captain Carmona has previously served as the commanding officer at Foothill Patrol and Van Nuys Patrol Divisions.

Captain Carmona earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management and graduated from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Point Leadership Program.  He graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and recently completed the Enhanced Emergency Management Unified Command Course, Texas Engineering Extension Course.

Captain Carmona loves sports and the outdoors.  His hobbies include playing basketball, water skiing, hiking, fishing and traveling with his family.

Captain Carmona was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley.  He feels honored to lead the men and women assigned to the North Hollywood Area Community Police Station.  He understands the community and is proud to work hand in hand with its members, specifically those working and residing in the communities of North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Village and Toluca Lake. Captain Carmona is a stanch supporter of Community Policing and believes that it is essential that the Police Department and community work closely together to achieve the goal of reducing crime and the fear of crime.
