emailCaptain Kathryn Meek was born and educated in the City of Los Angeles. She joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1986. As a Police Officer, she was assigned to Rampart, Southeast and West Los Angeles Areas, where she worked patrol, vice and as a Field Training Officer. In 1993 she promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked in Van Nuys, Hollenbeck, and Southeast Areas, and at Operations-Central Bureau. Her assignments included patrol, gangs and complaint investigations, and the coveted positions of Assistant Watch Commander and Area Training Coordinator at Southeast Area. Promoting to the rank of Lieutenant in 2006, she held position of Watch Commander at Hollenbeck Area, as well as District Lieutenant, Detective GIS Lieutenant and Administrative Lieutenant at 77th Street Area. As a Lieutenant, her assignments additionally included specialized positions as the Operations-South Bureau Vice Coordinator, Officer-in-Charge of the Bomb Detection K9 Section at Los Angeles International Airport, and Detective Commanding Officer at 77th Street Detectives. On December 2, 2012, she was promoted to the rank of Captain at Southwest Patrol Division. On September 9, 2013, she was selected for her current assignment as the Commanding Officer of South Traffic Division. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. She is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
