Beth Corriea was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department by Chief of Police Charlie Beck on January 1, 2012. She serves as the Department Risk Manager and reports to Gerald Chaleff, the Special Assistant for Constitutional Policing, and the Chief of Police. As the Department Risk Manager she provides oversight, direction and management of the various components of the Department’s liability concerns Currently, her risk management strategic plan is focused on the following high risk issues facing the Department: use of force, traffic accidents, employment issues, fair labor standards act issues and workers’ compensation concerns. Ms. Corriea also oversees the operations of Risk Management Assessment Section, Risk Analysis Section, Risk Management Coordination Unit, Legal Affairs Division and chairs the Liability Management Committee. Ms. Corriea is also the Department’s representative on legal matters before the City Council, the City Attorney’s Office and the state and federal courts.
In December 2000, Ms. Corriea was appointed to California State Bar and worked in private practice as outside counsel for the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Police Department on employment litigation matters. In July 2005, Ms. Corriea joined the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office as a Deputy City Attorney. As a Deputy City Attorney, Ms. Corriea defended the Department and its personnel in employment litigation matters. Ms. Corriea has completed a number of jury trials in both state and federal court, earning her membership in the American Board of Trial Attorneys in 2010. She has also made two appearances before the California Supreme Court, fully briefed a third case before the high court, and has made appearances before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal and the California Courts of Appeal.
Ms. Corriea received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science and History in 1997 from the University of the Pacific while on a full softball scholarship, and received her Juris Doctorate Degree from the UCLA School of Law in 2000. |
