Captain James A. Alvarez began his Law Enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in 1986. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in November of 1988. He received an Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Southwestern University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
Captain Alvarez was a member of the United States Navy Reserve from September 1997-September 2005. He was mobilized for active duty from November 2001-November 2002 during Operation Noble Eagle. He was Honorably Discharged in September 2005.
Throughout his career, he has worked in many capacities including Patrol, Detectives, Vice, Training Division and Internal Affairs. He promoted to Sergeant in March 1997 and Lieutenant in February 2009. His most recent assignment was as an Officer-In-Charge of a section with-in Force Investigation Division. Captain Alvarez is married and has two children.
