Commander Kirk J. Albanese was born in 1956 in White Plains, New York. He moved to Los Angeles and started his police academy training on November 17, 1980. Commander Albanese has steadily moved through the ranks including, police officer, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and was promoted to the rank of commander on January 29, 2006.

During his 25 year career Commander Albanese has held assignments in patrol, gang enforcement, narcotics, Internal Affairs, Juvenile and administrative positions. While at the police officer rank Commander Albanese was a Senior Lead Officer and as a sergeant he supervised a Community Policing/government based problem solving unit referred to as FALCON (Focused Attack Linking Community Organizations and Neighborhoods). As a lieutenant Commander Albanese was assigned to Internal Affairs as both an officer-in-charge and as a chief investigator.

As a commanding officer, Commander Albanese has held command positions at 77 th Street Community Police Station, Juvenile Division, Wilshire Community Police Station, Foothill Community Police Station and Mission Community Police Station. As an Area commanding officer Commander Albanese was credited with establishing innovative crime reduction systems including, the “War Room Concept” where crime is analyzed and “Daily Missions” are assigned to command personnel through a “Daily Briefing” meeting. This process ensures that all personnel assigned to the command are accountable and working toward the reduction of Part 1 crime.

Commander Albanese was also credited with planning and opening the first new Los Angeles police station in 28 years. Mission Community Police Station opened on May 1, 2005, and serves the communities of Sylmar, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City and a portion of Granada Hills. He credits the assigned personnel under his command, other City Departments, political leadership and the community for this accomplishment.

Upon promotion to Commander, he was assigned as Assistant Commanding Officer of Operations-West Bureau, assuming responsibility for the police station Areas of Hollywood, Wilshire, West Los Angeles, Pacific, and West Traffic Division. He is currently the Assistant to the Director, Office of Operations.Commander Albanese a member of several professional and community based organizations including, the Los Angeles County Peace Officer Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the California State Juvenile Officers Association. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from the University of Phoenix. His personal interests include travel, physical fitness, and spending quality time with his wife and two children.
