Captain Richard Bonneau is a native of Los Angeles and has been a member of the Los Angeles Police Department for over 35 years. After spending 12 years in the aerospace industry, he began his police career in 1971, working in Central Patrol Division.
Over the past 35 years, he has been assigned to seven patrol divisions and has worked in a variety of assignments including: vice enforcement, canine operations, Internal Affairs Division, staff assignments, and as a Police Academy instructor. As a Captain, he has commanded Harbor Patrol Division, Scientific Investigation Division, including the Department's crime lab, Central Area, and Southeast Area. He is currently assigned as the LAPD Ombuds Officer. In addition to his responsibilities as a Command Officer, Captain Bonneau serves as a Director of the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club. He is a past president of the Los Angeles Police Command Officers Association, and a past chairperson of the Northstar District, Boy Scouts of America.
Captain Bonneau has a master's degree from the University of Southern California and is a graduate of the FBI's National Academy.
