Deputy Chief Stephen R. Jacobs (Rick) was born in Inglewood, California in 1952, and joined the Department in 1979. He was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Wilshire Operations-Support Division on April 9, 2000.
Commander Jacobs has held a variety of positions with the Department. His patrol assignments have been at Southwest, Southeast and Newton Areas. His investigative assignments have been in Vice at Pacific Area and at Anti-Terrorist Division. His administrative assignments include Planning and Research Division, Operations-Central Bureau, the Office of Administrative Services, Bureau of Special Investigation, Operations-West Bureau and the Office of the Chief of Police where he held the position of Adjutant. He also was the Officer-in-Charge of the Facilities Task Force, which coordinated the 20-year strategic facility plan for the Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1987, to Lieutenant in 1993 and to Captain in 2000. He has been a Commanding Officer at Wilshire Operations-Support Division,West Traffic Division, Metropolitan Division, Training Division, and Southeast Area. Effective July 1, 2007, he will be promoted to the rank of Commander and will be the Assistant Commanding Officer, Operations-South Bureau.
Commander Jacobs has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
