Commander Maislin was born in New York, NY, in 1956. He was educated in the New York area, and received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting in 1976 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. After moving to California and joining the Los Angeles Police Department, he received his Masters Degree in Public Administration in 1991 from California State University, Los Angeles.

After brief stints as a criminal investigator with a New York State Special Prosecutor’s Office and the United States Internal Revenue Service, Commander Maislin was appointed to the Department in April 1979. He was promoted to Sergeant in April 1984, Lieutenant in September 1988, Captain in October 1993, and Commander in January 2002.

As an Officer his assignments included Southwest Patrol, Employee Opportunity and Development Division, Communications Division, Planning and Research Division, and Newton Vice. As a Sergeant he worked Hollenbeck Patrol; Evaluation and Administration Section, Office of Operations; and Traffic Coordination Section. After promoting to Lieutenant he was assigned to North Hollywood Patrol, Organized Crime Intelligence Division, Support Services Bureau, and the Office of Administrative Services. Upon his promotion to Captain he was assigned as the Commanding Officer of Hollywood Patrol Division. He has also served as the Commanding Officer of Juvenile Division, and most recently as the Commanding Officer of Central Community Police Station.

Commander Maislin is a founding member and former president of the Shomrim Society of Southern California. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association, California Peace Officers Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In his spare time he referees amateur and collegiate soccer.
