Tim Riley was appointed as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Los Angeles Police Department by Chief of Police William J. Bratton on January 24, 2005. He serves as Bureau Chief and Commanding Officer of the Information and Communications Services Bureau (ICSB).
As Bureau Chief of ICSB, Mr. Riley oversees the operations of the Communications Division, Information Technology Division, Emergency Command Control Communications Division, and Records and Identification Division. He advises the Chief of Police on Information Technology issues and is the Department's liaison with the City of Los Angeles Information Technology Agency.
Mr. Riley began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department after serving for over 31 years with the Newport Beach Police Department. Mr. Riley achieved the rank of Police Captain with the Newport Beach Police Department where his career included working in every Division of the Department including the Support Services Division where he managed the planning and implementation of two 9-1-1 Information Systems, a Computer Aided Dispatch system, a Records Management System, two Jail Management Systems, an Automated Report Writing System, a Document Imaging System, three Alarm Management Systems, a Mobile Video System, an Automated Vehicle Location System, an Automated Mapping System, an Automated Vehicle Maintenance System, and various other technology projects including the implementation of the Department's Strategic Technology Plan over a 10-year period.
Mr. Riley holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice, a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Mr. Riley is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection School, and the National Institute of Justice, Technology Institute for Law Enforcement. He also was a board member of the State of California, Emergency Services Advisory Board for 9-1-1 services in the State.
