Captain III Walt Schick has been with the Los Angeles Police Department since November 23, 1997. Captain Schick was one of the first command staff officers to be hired by the department as a result of the LAPD partnership contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of law enforcement and began his career as a police cadet with the Culver City Police Department in 1972. Since that time, Captain Schick has worked in nearly every aspect of municipal law enforcement and has successfully promoted to the rank of Captain.
Prior to the merger with LAPD, Captain Schick was assigned as the Operations Bureau Commander with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Police Department and was responsible for directing and managing the operational transit policing needs for the greater Los Angeles area. Prior to this assignment, Captain Schick also functioned as the Administrative Bureau Commander for the MTA Police Department.
Captain Schick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice as well as numerous training certificates including the State of California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training Advanced Management Certificates. Captain Schick has published several articles for the California Peace Officers Association Journal of Law Enforcement and is currently scheduled to attend a future class of the POST sponsored Command College.
