email Captain III Bill Williams started his career with the Los Angeles Police Department as a Police Student Worker in 1978. He was appointed to the position of Police Officer in February 1980. He moved through the ranks of leadership starting with Sergeant in 1987, Lieutenant in 1992, and to the rank of Captain in July 2000.

Captain Williams has been assigned to a variety of positions within patrol, including 77th Street, Newton, Pacific and Harbor Areas. Early in his career, Captain Williams was selected for specialized assignments in Vice, Operations-Central Bureau Task Force and Narcotics Division. As a supervisor, he was assigned to the Venice Beach Detail and served as a Patrol Adjutant, Adjutant in the Office of the Chief of Police, Officer-in-Charge of the Los Angeles International Airport Substation, Commanding Officer of Pacific Area’s Operation Support Division, Commanding Officer of West Traffic Division, and Area Commanding Officer of Pacific Community Police Station. His current assignment, Commanding Officer of Commercial Crimes Division.

Captain Williams is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 183rd Session, and the inaugural class of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Point Leadership and Command Class. He is a member of the following organizations: Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association, Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, and a past Board member of the Toberman Settlement House of San Pedro.

Captain Williams was born in Roanoke, Alabama and moved to San Pedro, California at the age of one.
